All that is left of the original 80s show is the name, place and character names. You neither get to see much of the city nor the sun in this film, that feels like Michael Mann took his "Collateral" setting straight to Miami, with a very similar look and filming technique. The story of Sonny and Rico going undercover starts somewhat slow and could have used a few more action sequences. But the film does get better with every minute, as the story unfolds and things get more and more complicated. Foxx and Farrell are actually great choices for their characters. The second half is Michael Mann at its best: Dark, gritty, realistic shootouts and grim characters in a world of crime and murder. Especially the trailer park hostage rescue sequence is brilliant, as well the final moments of the movie, also thanks to a great soundtrack by the likes of Audioslave and Mogwai, whose fantastic instrumentals should be used in many more films. Not quite en par with the masterpieces "Heat" and "Collateral" but still pretty cool and a lot better than expected.

The new "In the air tonight" was by Nonpoint and I think it went well with the movie...Not that it really made a difference seeing as it was only heard in the closing credits of the theatrical release.

It made sense to use an updated version of "In the air tonight" seeing as it is an update of Miami Vices set in 2006.

I think it would would have been even cooler though if Jan Hammer had done the soundtrack, but he sadly turned down.

80's Miami Vice & Miami Vice 2006 co-exist as being both great so it don't matter which is better.

It was good, but my expectations were not met. I know that they fucked with Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight" & made into a remix, sung by someone else. It sounds like SHIT, especially in comparison to the original. However Michael Mann is a strong enough of a director,... so that it didn't fuck up the entire movie...

Some parts of the movie ran so fast, like in the beginning with the music being so loud, it was hard to understand wtf was going on & why did they do this, or why didn't they finish that conversation with that character, etc. Fast paced, just like the tv show, but it was a little to over the top & I think the overall story suffered. The relationship between Ricardo and Trudy was kinda lame and the way that she lived at the end after that big ass explosion was kinda lame too. The tv show was better.

"Its can be better if they choose actors other than Foxx and Farrell... Imagine instead Danzel Washington and Russell Crowe."

As being a fan of Michael Mann, this turned out to be better than i expected. Although it's a heavily flawed film, doesn't mean it's bad. What appeals to me is that in a time of hair-ironing metro sexuals with peticures, it's good to see an action flick which consists of two macho, manly action heroes who are willing to risk their lives. It's a reminder of how the action hero is in decline. Visually the film is impeccable. Quite not the LA of 'Heat', but the use of HD camera captures the grittiness of the seductive city. And the fact that this isn't no 'Lethal Weapon' or 'Rush Hour' type buddy-cop movie, shown between the chemistry of Foxx and Farrell: they play two professionals carrying out their jobs. It's an unemotionally cold, violent and visceral package of entertainment. Not a masterpiece, nowhere near a classic, but definately Michael Mann's most underrated film yet.
